How Overtime Pay Is Calculated
The calculator separates total hours into regular hours and overtime hours. It then applies your normal rate to regular hours and the selected multiplier to overtime hours.
Total weekly pay equals regular pay plus overtime pay. Monthly estimates use 52 weeks divided by 12 months, while annual estimates use 52 weeks. Actual payroll results can vary because of taxes, deductions, local labor rules, special rates or employer policies.
Overtime Calculation Example
Suppose you earn $20 per hour, work 45 hours in one week, receive overtime after 40 hours and qualify for a 1.5× overtime rate.
